Eighteen girls from three Global Peace Foundation Leap Hub schools in Nairobi participated in Intel’s My Digital Journey program that has been customized to empower young girls in the field of technology. Leap Hubs is a program of Global Peace Education, a division of the Global Peace Foundation, that gives secondary school students the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills.

Students from Kariobangi North Girls High School, Maina Wanjigi Secondary School and Embakasi Girls Secondary School participated in the August 15, 2015 program. My Digital Journey is part of Intel’s She Will Connect program, which is now partnering with Leap Hubs.

The program was part of a testing phase for the My Digital Journey software that is still under development by Intel.

Organized by Global Peace Foundation in collaboration with Intel Kenya and Youth Banner, the program drew international volunteers from the United States and Germany who trained the students on how to create their online profiles, find leaning resources and maintain internet security. The students were also taken through a mentorship session where they were guided on how to choose their career paths and became successful.

“I now know a lot of things regarding internet safety,” said one of the students from Maina Wanjigi Secondary School. “Thanks to the facilitators I can now create my profile, access information and create useful content for others.”

After the testing period, the program will be launched in Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria among other countries.
