Volunteers with Global Peace Foundation (GPF) India celebrated International Day of Peace on September 21 with the children of Bal Sahyog, an orphanage founded by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1954 that is working tirelessly for the care and protection of orphaned, helpless, abandoned and neglected children.

Two projects, Paint for Peace followed by Play for Peace, were held at the orphanage. Mentors and children discussed the concept of peace as children were asked to fill blank canvases with their rendition of a world of peace.

This model of mentorship is a reminder that everyone can contribute to upholding the dignity of all members of our community and society because we are all part of the same global family, no matter our background. GPF President, James Flynn, highlighted the day saying, “International Day of Peace shines a light on the universal aspiration for peace within the one human family. Peace Day provides a globally shared day for all humanity to uplift unity in diversity and commit to building a culture of peace and service.”
