To mark the 30th anniversary of the Peace Agreement in Central America, Esquipulas (I), former presidents Vinicio Cerezo and Álvaro Colom of Guatemala, Armando Calderón Sol of El Salvador, Laura Chinchilla of Costa Rica and Nicolas Árdito Barletta of Panama led a forum at the Organization of American States (OAS) headquarters in Washington, DC on March 15, 2016. Carlos Raúl Morales, Foreign Minister of Guatemala and Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS also attended.
Central American leaders, some of whom were directly involved in the Esquipulas peace process and democratization of the region in the mid-1980s, reflected on the progress made since then and the current challenges facing Central America.
The effort was organized by the Latin American Presidential Mission with the support of the Organization of American States, Global Peace Foundation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala and the Esquipulas Foundation for Peace, Democracy, Development and Integration.
