“I learned that there are a lot of people out there who want to help but don’t know how.”
Vatsal Chaturvedi is one young leader who is making a huge difference for Indian orphans and underprivileged children in his community. Recruited into Global Peace Foundation (GPF) India’s Campus Ambassador Program for his energy, passion and character, Vatsal organized and implemented a collection drive throughout the month of August for the children of Arya Orphanage in Dariya Ganj.

The Campus Ambassador Program is an initiative by GPF India that endeavors to reach out to young college students who have a zeal for helping their society and provide them with a platform and guidance to put their unique talents to use for the greater good of their communities. GPF India is a partner in creating a network where these young and highly motivated individuals can connect their passion and creativity with foundational principles and values that guide the implementation of their moral and innovative leadership.
One student from every campus is selected to become a Campus Peace Ambassador responsible for managing a local team dedicated to identifying and addressing social issues in their community they are passionate about solving.
Reflecting on his experience, Vatsal was surprised by the mixed reactions of the general public when he set out to initiate the collection drive. Although rejected many times, he was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming support he received from his campus.
Vatsal’s collection drive provides garments for orphans
“Young people who were studying or preparing for some kind of examination showed great interest and were also very charitable,” said Vatsal. “I felt a great deal of satisfaction while doing something for the needy and disadvantaged. Some people were really keen on helping me and told me that I can rely on them for my next activity as well. I learned that there are a lot of people out there who want to help but don’t know how. This is where I felt that people like me and organizations like GPF can help bridge that gap and bring people who want to help together.”
GPF India Campus Ambassadors have also conducted service activities like book collection drives and fundraisers for menstrual hygiene. Students participate in ongoing group discussions to enhance and share their experiences as part of the Campus Ambassadors network.
